The Emerging Research Lab (ER Lab) is established by the School of Computer Engineering to identify and nurture new promising research areas in the disciplines of computing and engineering that show high research values as well as substantial commercial potential. The ER Lab aims to host several research groups conducting pioneer
research in their respective fields with the objective of growing them into
full-fledged research centers of excellence with close links to the
industry.
The ER Lab currently houses the
following research programs:
Cognitive and Neural Systems Program
The program develops autonomous
systems with high-level cognitive functions, including attention, vision,
adaptation, reasoning, and awareness, and applys them to robotic, simulation
modeling, and information services applications.
DNA Chip Design Program
The program builds our own capability of designing DNA chips, through the development of a web-based server.
DNA chip design is analogous to IC design: While the wafer manufacturers are fed with the large-scale integrated circuit designs and produce electronically functioning semiconductor chips, microarry, or DNA chip, makers rely on various genome-based and pharmacogenetic chip designs to fabricate, for example, biologically workable human genome microarrys. The DNA chip technology is empowering the scientific community to understand the fundamental aspects underlining the growth and development of life as well as to explore the genetic causes of anomalies occurring in the functioning of the human body. Capability of providing DNA chip makers and users with professional designs is of great market value.
Speech and Language Technology Program
The program focuses on the area of speech and audio research including Speech and feature enhancement, Music structure discovery and Language and speaker identification.
The ER Lab is keen to work with
both research and industrial partners. If you are interested in collaboration,
